Exciting time for the ILC technical design

| 20 December 2012 After the official handover ceremony of the TDR draft in Tokyo last Saturday, ILC experts, policy makers and members of industry discussed the potential of building the ILC in Japan. One conclusion was that physicists from all over the world would be welcome in Japan, even though they may be considered strange by some. Category: Around the World | Tagged: , , ,

Rolf Heuer, global ILC cities and the role of Japan

| 1 November 2012 On 24 October, a symposium to boost activities to invite the ILC to Japan was held at Tokyo University, Tokyo, Japan. This event received great attention. One of the reason was CERN's Director-General Rolf Heuer's talk, which was delivered for the first time in Japan since the discovery of Higgs-like particle in July. New ILC website launched in Japan

| 14 June 2012 Particle cartoons, enticing images, animations and lots and lots of information – that’s what a new website dedicated to the ILC in Japan offers its visitors to help them learn more about the ILC and particle physics. Created by the Advanced Accelerator Association promoting science and technology, it went live on Monday this week. Category: Feature | Tagged: , , ,

ILC beyond the technical design

| 8 March 2012 Realising a big international project such as International Linear Collider involves many issues beyond finalising the technical design. The Advanced Accelerator Association promoting science and technology, Japan's industry-academia collaboration towards the realisation of the ILC, recently published a report to address such issues. Is accelerator research useful?

| 27 January 2011 There is a question almost always asked when talking about science - “OK, this is interesting. But is it useful for something?” Not too many scientists working on basic science are good at answering this question. “Dr. Masatoshi Koshiba sometimes says that the neutrino, his main research subject, is not useful at all. Well, a Nobel laureate could say that, but not us. I try to talk more about useful accelerators these days,” said Atsuto Suzuki, the Director General of KEK, at a symposium held in Kyoto, Japan, in November, which was organised by the Advanced Accelerator Association promoting science and technology (AAA). Observe, explore and re-create the universe

| 23 July 2009 "Uchu (宇宙)" is the Japanese word that can be translated as either "universe" or "space." The Advanced Accelerator Association Promoting Science and Technology (AAA) in Japan has been on tour with their symposium series on "uchu" – observing by telescope, exploring by spacecraft and re-creating by accelerator – and the second event was just held in Hiroshima on 4 July. Collaboration towards the realisation of the ILC

| 26 March 2009 On 26 February, in the middle of an important Diet discussion (equivalent to members of congress in Japan) on the supplemental bill, the Advanced Accelerator Association Promoting Science and Technology (AAA) held a symposium entitled “Departing from Japan to Universe – Toward the realisation of International Linear Collider (ILC)” in Akasaka, central region of Tokyo with over 150 participants from industry, academia and the political community. AAA, established in June 2008 with a total of about 100 companies, universities and laboratories, has discussed issues on R&D, intellectual property rights and other related areas concerning the ILC as a model project. The primary aim of this symposium was to review AAA’s activities for fiscal year 2008 and to gain a better understanding of the advanced accelerator – the significance of promoting the R&D and the expected impact to the society. New forum for promotion of advanced accelerator technology and scienceForum meets in Tokyo

| 19 June 2008 On June 11, the executive officers of leading Japanese companies, important dignitaries, and a physics Nobel Prize winner gathered at Kasumigaseki, Tokyo, Japan to celebrate the establishment of a forum for promotion of advanced accelerator technology and science (official English name yet to be determined). The forum aims to develop the structure which will be the core of the industry- government-academia alliance to pursue R&D for next- generation accelerators. The organising committee was formed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industrial Ltd. (MHI), Toshiba, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric Co., and KEK.
