Lyn Evans | 20 October 2016First bilateral discussions between the Japanese and US administrations have led to a new emphasis in accelerator R&D for the linear collider that is both good and bad, Lyn Evans says. More bilateral discussions between Japan and European and Asian countries will follow. In the meantime, the community will lay down plans for SCRF research for the next two to three years during a dedicated workshop-in-a-workshop in December. Evans, current Director of the Linear Collider Community, hopes for great turnout.

Philip Burrows | 10 March 2016The International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) is a biannual gathering of the heads of major particle physics labs and institutes from around the world for the purpose of sharing news, liaising, and working together to promote global collaboration in our field. The Linear Collider Collaboration (LCC) has its mandate from ICFA, and the LC oversight Board (LCB) met in association with the recent ICFA meeting [see other article] to monitor progress on the three main LCC elements: the ILC, CLIC, and Detector & Physics groups.

Brian Foster | 6 August 2015I am sure that my readers will remember that in my last Director’s Corner, in April, I threatened to write at some future date about the new Project Implementation Planning (PIP) document. Those of you with an even longer memory, going back to my Director’s Corner of April 2014, may even remember what it is. Just in case, however, I take this opportunity not only to honour my promise of last April to also to refresh your memory and to offer you an opportunity to peruse the final document.

Brian Foster | 3 April 2014Now that there are great hopes that Japan will soon step forward with a proposal to host the ILC, the time has come for the Linear Collider Collaboration to take another look at issues related to ILC governance. Brian Foster, European director for the Linear Collider Collaboration, has just been appointed chair of the subcommittee in charge of producing recommendations on the organisation and management of an ILC lab in Japan.

20 March 2014Jonathan Bagger, ILCSC chair until its final meeting a year ago and current member of the Linear Collider Board, will take over as Director of the Canadian national lab TRIUMF from July 2014, TRIUMF announced on Tuesday. "It is an exciting time to lead the laboratory,” Bagger, currently of Johns Hopkins University, said. “Its collaborative, interdisciplinary model represents the future for much of science. TRIUMF helps Canada connect fundamental research to important societal goals, ranging from health and safety to education and innovation.”
