New ILC videos released

18 May 2023 Have you seen the latest video from ILC? It features interviews with Jenny List, Working Group Leader in the IDT, SLAC theorist Michael Peskin, and other experts discussing the exciting physics breakthroughs that the ILC could deliver. They also highlight the project's global collaboration, the various educational opportunities for students, and the focus on sustainability. Category: Feature | Tagged: , , , , ,

Here’s your physics case, once and for all

| 11 February 2016 Dear colleagues, this one is for you. All those paper writing thesis completing report submitting physicists out there: here comes a new central paper for your list of references and your reading list. It provides a comprehensive physics case for the e+e- linear collider and puts all the topics and ideas from theory, collider searches, astronomy in context to each other. It’s been published in the open-access peer-reviewed European Physical Journal C (EPJC). Category: Feature | Tagged: , , , , , , ,

Towards the realisation of the International Linear Collider

30 April 2015 At the ILC Tokyo Symposium, held on 22 April 2015 at the Ito International Hall, Tokyo, Japan, the Linear Collider Collaboration (LCC) and the more than 300 participants from around the world at the Asian Linear Collider Workshop (ALCW) 2015 decided to issue a statement confirming their conviction of the scientific justification for a prompt realisation of the International Linear Collider (ILC). Updating the physics case for the ILC

| 19 March 2015 The physics case of the ILC boils down to three main points, says Hitoshi Yamamoto, Director for Physics and Detectors in the Linear Collider Collaboration. A physics case is a scientific justification based on studies and theory. And while the case for the linear collider has been made many times, the LC physics community thinks that it is now much clearer. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , , , ,

Physics and detector organisation – Progressing on delicate balances

| 20 March 2014 Without a solid physics case, state-of-the-art detectors and well-defined infrastructures like computing and links with the machine, a linear collider would have few arguments to go by. The Linear Collider Collaboration has working groups installed that make sure that the detectors can advance towards real collaborations and that synergies between the two linear colliders are harnessed as much as possible. Hitoshi Yamamoto, Associate Director for Physics and Detectors in the LCC, describes the current status of the physics and detector directorate where most of the components are now up and running. Scientific justification for the ILC

| 14 June 2012 At the KILC12 workshop in Daegu, Korea, in May, there was a panel discussion on the topic of what will be required to provide scientific justification for the International Linear Collider. The panel consisted of a cross-section of workshop attendees, accelerator physicists, detector experts, theorists and even one of our communicators. The panel discussion produced areas of agreement, some differences and homework. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , , ,

On roadmaps and signposts

| 26 April 2012 Roadmaps, like many things in life, become outdated and eventually misleading and useless. The only way to avoid this is to update them when it is clear that the landscape has, or is about to, change significantly. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , ,

The Higgs mandate

| 16 February 2012 One of the primary goals of the next global ILC workshop in Daegu, Korea, in April 2012 is to clarify the physics mandate of the ILC corresponding to narrowed-down physics scenarios, based in particular on LHC results from the Higgs boson search. International forum reviews linear collider physics case

| 16 February 2012 The international community of theorists and experimentalists working on ILC and CLIC is convinced of the strong physics case for a generic linear collider. More than one hundred of them gathered at DESY last week for three days of intense discussions and review of the different physics scenarios. Two papers are now under way and will be finalised by this summer. In the meantime the input from the whole particle physics community will be very welcome. Category: Feature | Tagged: , , , ,

Articulating the physics case for the ILC

| 17 November 2011 The ILC Detailed Baseline Design report will contain a chapter that describes the physics opportunities that the ILC will offer. The LHC is bringing us new information about particles in the ILC energy range. But what exactly is the Large Hadron Collider telling us, and what are the implications for the ILC programme? Michael Peskin encourages members of the ILC community to debate this question and contribute to the report. Category: Research Director's Report | Tagged: , , , ,
