New ILC Communicator for Asia
Starting on 16 April, Rika Takahashi will join KEK's Linear Collider Project Office to serve as the dedicated Asian communicator for the ILC.
Rika Takahashi |
She is taking over for Youhei Morita, who has served as the ILC communicator for Asia since August 2005. Takahashi will closely collaborate with the other ILC communicators, Elizabeth Clements (Americas), Perrine Royole-Degieux (Europe), and Barbara Warmbein (Europe).

Building prep work almost complete for Fermilab's ILC Test Area
Fermilab is in the final stages of preparing the New Muon
Laboratory for its newest tenant: a 60-metre long accelerator for ILC R&D.
|
With a brand new floor and freshly cleaned out space, Fermilab's New Muon Laboratory is about to become the new home to a sixty-metre-long accelerator that will serve as a test area for ILC R&D. Until recently, the New Muon Laboratory housed the 2000-ton Chicago cyclotron magnet for more than 24 years. The newly renovated area will now be used to test cryomodules for the ILC with an electron beam.

Fermilab's clean room in action
Fermilab technicians prepare an ILC cavity in the lab's new clean room. This
test cavity sent from DESY will be used to break in Fermilab's new
Horizontal Test Stand. Stay tuned to ILC NewsLine for a full

Organising the GDE for the ILC engineering design phase
Marc Ross (Fermilab), who is leading the task force on EDR Plannings |
The next big milestone for the GDE is to develop an engineering design and document it in an Engineering Design Report (EDR). The Reference Design we have developed over the past year is a complete description of the ILC, but without much of the detailed engineering needed to make a full-fledged funding proposal. We expect the next phase will take about three years and will include detailed and reliable costing, as well as critical R&D results and demonstrations that are needed to support the proposal. We have been discussing and planning for this next phase for some time. In order to develop a concrete plan, I recently appointed an EDR Planning Task Force, under the leadership of Marc Ross, to analyse specific organisational models and structures.

New ILC print publication launched
Next week particle physics departments in universities and institutions
around the world will find a new print publication in their mailboxes -
ILC NewsLine Quarterly. Published four
times a year, NewsLine Q will highlight key stories from its sister
publication, ILC NewsLine, reporting on the latest global advances in
ILC R&D. NewsLine Q will be sent to policy-makers, funding agencies,
government representatives, universities and other interested parties around
the world. The ILC communicators would also be happy to provide additional
copies for meetings, talks and other events.
