With the conclusion of last week's GDE meeting in Frascati, all eyes are focused on the next major ILC venue - Bangalore. The Indian Institute of Science will host the 2006 Linear Collider Workshop (LCWS 2006) in Bangalore, India from 9-13 March 2006. A GDE meeting will run in parallel to LCWS on 9-11 March 2006. Organized by the World Wide Study and GDE, this upcoming workshop is a continuation in the series of linear collider meetings that started in 1991. Approximately 400 scientists and engineers attended the most recent Linear Collider Workshop, which took place at Stanford in March 2005. The GDE meeting in Bangalore will take place three months after the recent meeting in Frascati. "The GDE meeting in Bangalore will focus towards the RDR," said Fermilab's Shekhar Mishra during a talk he gave at Frascati. "We will report on the Baseline Configuration Document (BCD) and the changes that have occurred since Frascati. The Change Control Board will evaluate the R&D program. The Design and Cost board will report on their progress, and there will also be progress reports on the RDR matrix." "We had a very large participation in the last workshop, and the Bangalore meeting will build on the progress made at Stanford last March, and since," said Jim Brau, a physicist at the University of Oregon and co-chair of the World Wide Study. "A major focus of this next meeting will be on the detector concept outlines for the ILC, which will be due at the time of the workshop. These outlines will form the basis for the Detector Concept Report, which will be produced to accompany the Reference Design Report (RDR) at the end of 2006." Brau explained that the Bangalore workshop will have many physics sessions, as have the past LCWS workshops. "A central purpose of the workshops has been to advance the physics case for the linear collider," he said. "We now have created an editorial board to prepare a clear statement of the physics program of the ILC for the Detector Concept Report, and we expect their work to begin with the Bangalore workshop." Pre-registration and abstract submissions are due by 15 January 2006. Attendees will need a visa in order to visit India. Workshop organizers encourage interested attendees to apply for a tourist visa as soon as possible. More information about the Linear Collider Workshop, including accommodations and travel details, is available online. A Web page about the GDE Meeting in Bangalore will be posted on the ILC Web site. For questions about the GDE meeting in Bangalore, please contact Maxine Hronek. --Elizabeth Clements |
