Press release: Colliders colliding

21 February 2013 Vancouver, 21 February 2013. The two most mature future particle physics projects, the International Linear Collider (ILC) and the Compact Linear Collider study (CLIC), have formed an official organisational partnership today. As the newly founded Linear Collider Collaboration, they will coordinate and advance the global development work for the linear collider, a global project to complement the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN and ultimately understand the deepest secrets of the universe. ILCSC plans the future

| 23 August 2012 The International Linear Collider Steering Committee (ILCSC) met in Melbourne at ICHEP12 to deal with the completion of its own mission and the initiation of a new organisation to pursue a future linear collider project. The ILC Technical Design Report (TDR) and companion Detailed Baseline Design (DBD) report will represent the final milestone in the mandate for the ILCSC. The ILCSC balanced its planning for receiving, reviewing and rolling-out of these reports over the coming year, with planning for the new organisational structure that will take the next steps toward a global linear collider project. From Fermilab Today: ICFA and ILCSC in Melbourne

19 July 2012 The International Linear Collider Steering Committee and the International Committee for Future Accelerators met recently in Melbourne in conjunction with ICHEP2012. ICFA chair and Fermilab Director Pier Oddone reports in his Director's Corner in the 17 July issue of Fermilab Today on the new organisation of the linear collider efforts, the timelines and responsibilities. There's also a call for nominees for the new Linear Collider Board. Category: Feature | Tagged: ,

From Fermilab Today: ICFA appoints Lyn Evans as first Linear Collider Director

21 June 2012 The International Committee on Future Accelerators (ICFA) has now taken the next significant step towards unification of the ILC Global Design Effort and the Compact Linear Collider organisation. It has appointed CERN's Lyn Evans to be the overall leader for the combined linear collider programmes. ICFA chair Pier Oddone comments. Category: Feature | Tagged: ,

From ICFA : Lyn Evans appointed as Linear Collider Director

21 June 2012 The international effort to design the world’s next major particle collider has a new leader. On 20 May 2012, the International Committee for Future Accelerators announced the appointment of CERN's Lyn Evans as the new Linear Collider Director. Evans is the first to hold the new position, which will lead the Linear Collider organisation created to bring two existing large-scale linear collider programmes under one governance. He will be based at CERN. Category: Feature | Tagged: , , ,

FALC meets in Japan

| 24 May 2012 The Funding Agencies for Large Colliders met in the Shonan Village Center in Kanagawa, Japan on 17 April. FALC is an informal group of agency representatives who discuss large international projects in particle physics, both projects that are under way and those in the planning stages. FALC has given special attention to the ILC since it is a totally global initiative and has no home laboratory to oversee its development. The meeting in Japan discussed the future of ILC R&D beyond the Global Design Effort mandate to produce a Technical Design Report next year. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , , , , ,

The International Linear Collider Steering Committee plans for the future

| 8 March 2012 The International Linear Collider Steering Committee, chaired by Jon Bagger, met at Oxford University on 2 February. The main order of business was to plan the future of the ILC effort, following completion of the Technical Design Report. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , , ,

From Fermilab Today: ILCSC and ICFA meetings

23 February 2012 Meetings for the International Linear Collider Steering Committee and the International Committee for Future Accelerators recently took place in Oxford, England. One of the principal issues discussed at both meetings was a new organisation for the worldwide linear collider effort. Category: Feature | Tagged: , ,

Pondering the future of particle physics

| 8 December 2011 The International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) sponsors a meeting every three years on “Future Perspectives in High Energy Physics.” This year the ICFA seminar was held at CERN and it broadly covered plans and ideas for future facilities for our field. This meeting was particularly timely, as it coincided both with the completion of the impressive first year of running of the LHC and with the kickoff of the update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics to be completed in 2013.
