Rolf Heuer, global ILC cities and the role of Japan

| 1 November 2012 On 24 October, a symposium to boost activities to invite the ILC to Japan was held at Tokyo University, Tokyo, Japan. This event received great attention. One of the reason was CERN's Director-General Rolf Heuer's talk, which was delivered for the first time in Japan since the discovery of Higgs-like particle in July. China awards Shin-ichi Kurokawa the 2012 Friendship Award

I found the Higgs!

| 6 September 2012 Two little visitors at show off the souvenirs they received at KEK's open house, held on Sunday, 2 September. The girl on the right was very happy to find a "Higgs" in her toy capsule given away at the ILC exhibit. Visitor numbers have increased dramatically from last year's open house, probably due to a special kind of Higgs mechanism that attracts the general public to particle physics. Japanese high-energy physics community says go for the linear collider

Report to build a new international science city presented

| 2 August 2012 On 30 July, a report called "Science Frontier Kyushu" was presented in the eighth meeting of a study group in Kyushu, the southernmost island of Japan. This report is indicative of the prefectures' aim in urban development to build a new international science city, which could be a hub of science research in the 21st century. The vision to invite the ILC laid out

| 12 July 2012 On 10 July, governors, industrial leaders, and local officials of Japan’s northeastern area got together to attend a general meeting of the Tohoku Advanced Science and Technology Study Group. In the northeastern part of Japan, or Tohoku, activities towards inviting the ILC to the area has been intensified ever since the ILC was positioned as one of the promising means to recover from the disastrous earthquake occurred last year. New ILC website launched in Japan

| 14 June 2012 Particle cartoons, enticing images, animations and lots and lots of information – that’s what a new website dedicated to the ILC in Japan offers its visitors to help them learn more about the ILC and particle physics. ILC physics and detector programme sees progress in Kyushu
