Until the Large Hadron Collider tells scientists where in the energy frontier to dig for new physics, ILC researchers are preparing for eventualities. Should new physics be found to reside in a range higher than the ILC’s current reach, scientists have a energy-boosting plan in their back pocket.

A new study is being undertaken to extend the maximum energy of the ILC from the present design of 0.5 TeV towards 1.0 TeV, either as a future option or possibly for the initial machine.

Possible upgrade scenarios to 1 TeV were discussed at length during the Snowmass Workshop last summer, but no conclusions or consensus emerged.
