Global Design Effort optimises industralisation models

| 26 May 2011 As part of Technical Design Phase 2, the Global Design Effort has been working towards more realistic and cost-effective industrialisation models for the production of superconducting radiofrequency cavities and cryomodules, as these are primary cost drivers in the ILC construction estimate. To that end, they have been organising a series of visit to cavity and material manufacturers and workshops. The next one is in July 2011 in Chicago, US. Today’s technology in 18th-century framework

10 March 2011 The TESLA Technology Collaboration Meeting was held from 28 February to 3 March, hosted by the University of Milan and INFN Sezione di Milano. Category: Image of the week | Tagged: , , , , ,

Preparing for SCRF industrialisation

| 3 March 2011 Developing a realistic plan for cost-effective production of the large number of ILC superconducting cavities and cryomodules is perhaps our most challenging task in preparing for the Technical Design Report. A new round of visits to industry is aimed at informing that effort. Category: Uncategorized | Tagged: , , ,

Superconducting RF cavity industrialisation

| 17 June 2010 Producing high gradient superconducting radiofrequency (SCRF) cavities that meet our demanding performance goals, are affordable and can be produced by industry represents one of the largest challenges on the way to making a solid project proposal for the ILC. [...] Developing a worldwide capability to produce our cavities in industry represents an enormous challenge - one we need to address now. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , ,

Stimulus funds for SCRF at Fermilab

| 20 August 2009 (...) The announcement by the U.S. Department of Energy that it will provide $52.7M of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to develop the Fermilab (SCRF) programme is a very welcome development. -- By Barry Barish, Bob Kephart Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , ,

Progress in the SCRF technical area

| 30 October 2008 As one of Project Managers for the ILC I was been given the current task of overseeing superconducting radiofrequency technology (SCRF) in August 2007, and it may be a good time to see how our SCRF technical area could make some progress with global cooperation. Globalising R&D

| 15 May 2008 The coordination of superconducting radiofrequency R&D is central to the Global Design Effort's mission of bringing the design for the ILC to the point we can make a robust proposal to our governments. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , , , , , ,
