SiD optimisation group moves towards new detector model after PNNL meeting

| 20 October 2016 SiD, one of the two planned detectors for the ILC, decided at the end of last year to change their simulation and reconstruction framework. At a recent meeting at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in the US the optimisation group got their heads round simulations, detector and physics studies in the new software framework. 2020 on the horizon

| 22 January 2015 Good news for detector developers in Europe: the AIDA-2020 proposal to the European Commission has been selected to be funded as part of the Horizon 2020 programme. This means that future projects needing state-of-the-art particle detectors like the Large Hadron Collider upgrade and the linear collider will receive a total of ten million euros funding over the next four years. Thirty-eight participants from all across Europe take part in AIDA2020, including CERN as coordinating institute, making it the largest European detector R&D project. LCIO 2.0 improves simulation coordination

| 8 December 2011 A new version of linear collider data storage software was released this past autumn to accommodate detector scientists' increasing sophistication in simulating particle events. LCIO (the name comes from 'linear collider input/output') continues to facilitate agreement among the world's linear collider groups with a common event data model and file format for data exchange. Annual ILC software workshop reviews whole chain of data analysis

| 10 May 2007 Even the best detector will be useless without clever reconstruction algorithms and software. On 2-4 May 2007, the ILC Software Workshop was held at LAL, Orsay (France). The whole chain of data processing was reviewed there: software framework and tools, algorithms and physics results. At the end of the workshop, DESY physicist Ties Behnke summarised that significant progress has been achieved over the past year and important performance milestones are close to being reached, even though the community is still small. Cambridge physicist Mark Thomson, finished his contribution declaring he was now convinced that Particle Flow Algorithm (PFA) can meet the ILC performance goals at 500 GeV and 1 TeV.
