The Moriond conference, one of the most central physics conferences where latest results are presented to the community, is in full swing. Yesterday, Wednesday, was entirely dedicated to "The SM Scalar boson" - or, in other words, the new particle discovered at the LHC. Both the CMS and ATLAS experiments presented their latest results, and its seems that the new particle is compatible with a Higgs boson. The summer conferences will see even more updates - and maybe a confirmation? Find out more about yesterday's talks by viewing the individual talks, or all of the event webcasts kindly made available by IN2P3.

Today I pay tribute to a very special Vietnamese physicist, Jean Trân Thanh Vân, who has been awarded the 2011 Tate Medal. No field of physics is more international than particle physics and Trân epitomises that spirit. He has dedicated much of his professional life to creating ways to bring physicists together from around the globe, and especially his initiatives to bring Vietnam into the global world of physics.

At the biggest particle physics winter conference, the Rencontres de Moriond held in La Thuile in Italy from 3-17 March, scientists presented loads of new results, including some on the search for the Higgs boson and on new physics beyond the Standard Model. The CERN Bulletin covered some of these results in last week's edition. Impact of a Higgs boson on supersymmetry | Uncertain signals from the Higgs boson | Straight to the Top | Direct and indirect searches make the whole picture | Searches for Dark Matter, SUSY and other exotic particles | Addressing symmetry breaking and mass hierarchy | Seeing less would be just as good | New physics further constrained by LHCb results
