YiLin Liu | 27 June 2013From 12 to 14 June, the 464th Fragrant Hill Science Conference on “The Next-generation High Energy Electron Positron Collider - Current Situation and Future Strategy” was held in the Beijing Fragrant Hill Hotel. Thirty-five front-line scientists from theoretical physics, experimental physics, detectors and accelerators from eleven institutes in China joined the conference. Scientists reviewed the achievements of high-energy-frontier experiments and current research programmes on particle physics both at home and abroad. They also discussed China's strategy for the next-generation high-energy electron-positron colliders.

2 May 2013Electrons are once again streaming into SLAC's historic End Station A, setting the stage for a new user facility in the huge, concrete hall where the first evidence for quarks was discovered. Fed by billion-particle bunches of high-energy electrons diverted from the linear accelerator supply to the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), the new beamline, called the End Station Test Beam (ESTB), will initially host three types of experiments: General beam physics and machine-detector interface studies for the proposed International Linear Collider and Compact Linear Collider, radiation hardness tests on detector components and R&D for high-energy physics detectors, which will use secondary particles created when the main beam hits a target.

Barbara Warmbein | 18 April 2013A concept to save space and power for future particle detectors called power pulsing has recently been tested and proven to work on one of the possible calorimeter options for the future ILC detectors. The silicon-tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter prototype took data in test beam and magnet at the German lab DESY. The project is currently run by groups from France and Japan.

Qian Pan | 7 February 2013Shin-ichi Kurokawa, world-famous Japanese particle accelerator expert and promoter of the ILC, has made great efforts in promoting the personnel exchanges and cooperative researches between Japan and China. Last month, he received a third award in China, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award, in recognition of his great contribution and dedication to China’s accelerator science development.

Rika Takahashi | 7 February 2013On Friday, 18 January, Hakubun Shimomura, Japan’s Minister of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), the funding agency for Japan’s high-energy physics programme, stated Japan’s intention to invite the ILC in the regular press conference after the cabinet meeting, responding to a question from the press about the government’s standpoint to the ILC project.
