Former ILCSC chair Jon Bagger to lead TRIUMF

20 March 2014 Jonathan Bagger, ILCSC chair until its final meeting a year ago and current member of the Linear Collider Board, will take over as Director of the Canadian national lab TRIUMF from July 2014, TRIUMF announced on Tuesday. "It is an exciting time to lead the laboratory,” Bagger, currently of Johns Hopkins University, said. “Its collaborative, interdisciplinary model represents the future for much of science. TRIUMF helps Canada connect fundamental research to important societal goals, ranging from health and safety to education and innovation.” Category: Around the World | Tagged: , , ,

Press Release: International Linear Collider completes draft of its design report

20 December 2012 Tokyo, 15 December. The draft of the Technical Design Report (TDR) for the planned International Linear Collider ILC was handed over to Jonathan Bagger, the chair of the International Linear Collider Steering Committee (ILCSC), at an official ceremony in Tokyo, Japan, on 15 December. This draft is the product of many years of research and development and a series of in-depth technical reviews for the ILC, the potential next-generation particle collider to complement and advance beyond the physics of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The handing over of the TDR draft marks the ILC's major step towards the completion of its final design. Category: Feature | Tagged: , , ,

China awards Shin-ichi Kurokawa the 2012 Friendship Award

and | 11 October 2012 The former chair of the International Linear Collider Steering Committee and of the Asian Committee for Future Accelerators, Shin-ichi Kurokawa, has received the highest award that the People’s Republic of China gives to foreign experts: the Friendship Award of China. The awardees also met Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. Category: Around the World | Tagged: , , ,

ILCSC plans the future

| 23 August 2012 The International Linear Collider Steering Committee (ILCSC) met in Melbourne at ICHEP12 to deal with the completion of its own mission and the initiation of a new organisation to pursue a future linear collider project. The ILC Technical Design Report (TDR) and companion Detailed Baseline Design (DBD) report will represent the final milestone in the mandate for the ILCSC. The ILCSC balanced its planning for receiving, reviewing and rolling-out of these reports over the coming year, with planning for the new organisational structure that will take the next steps toward a global linear collider project. From Fermilab Today: ICFA and ILCSC in Melbourne

19 July 2012 The International Linear Collider Steering Committee and the International Committee for Future Accelerators met recently in Melbourne in conjunction with ICHEP2012. ICFA chair and Fermilab Director Pier Oddone reports in his Director's Corner in the 17 July issue of Fermilab Today on the new organisation of the linear collider efforts, the timelines and responsibilities. There's also a call for nominees for the new Linear Collider Board. Category: Feature | Tagged: ,

The Higgs is Different

| 5 July 2012 The Higgs is Different, says Jonathan Bagger, a theoretical physicist and chair of the International Linear Collider Steering Committee ILCSC. It has no spin, it fills the vacuum, but most importantly, it opens the door to a new range of questions. Questions which a linear collider with its clean and controlled collisions could help answer. FALC meets in Japan

| 24 May 2012 The Funding Agencies for Large Colliders met in the Shonan Village Center in Kanagawa, Japan on 17 April. FALC is an informal group of agency representatives who discuss large international projects in particle physics, both projects that are under way and those in the planning stages. FALC has given special attention to the ILC since it is a totally global initiative and has no home laboratory to oversee its development. The meeting in Japan discussed the future of ILC R&D beyond the Global Design Effort mandate to produce a Technical Design Report next year. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , , , , ,

ILC Project Implementation Planning: the prequel / the draft

| 15 March 2012 How should we approach questions on siting and funding the ILC? How should the construction project be governed and managed? What will be the responsibilities of the host country? How can in-kind contributions be managed most effectively? The Global Design Effort has addressed these and other such implementation issues in a new draft document submitted to the International Linear Collider Steering Committee. We make the draft available today and welcome your comments. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , ,

Towards a single directorate for ILC and CLIC physics and detectors studies

| 15 March 2012 The ILC Steering Committee is now considering a new organisation for a linear collider project that includes both the ILC and CLIC programmes, in view of their individual progress and the cooperation between them, and it envisions a merger of physics and detector activities. It is a challenge to create a new mechanism that will satisfy all parties, but we should try hard to find one. Category: Research Director's Report | Tagged: , , ,

The International Linear Collider Steering Committee plans for the future

| 8 March 2012 The International Linear Collider Steering Committee, chaired by Jon Bagger, met at Oxford University on 2 February. The main order of business was to plan the future of the ILC effort, following completion of the Technical Design Report. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , , ,
