As many of you will have heard by now, the Linear Collider Collaboration was given another three-year mandate by the International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA). It took the opportunity to streamline management a little, so from January we will run the collaboration in a smaller and slightly changed team. Let me introduce the new and old management to you.

A not-to-be-missed event in Tokyo this autumn was a 15-metre-long original art work representing the ILC. Designed by famous architect Jo Nagasaka, the exhibition was built with the help of more than 300 students in a traditional Japanese way with rammed earth. In one week, more than 40,000 enthusiastic visitors had the chance discover the ILC project in a unique way.

Future ex-Director Mike Harrison dedicates his last corner to describing the challenges that come with a change of emphasis in the R&D. The main R&D goal is optimised SCRF cost coupled with optimal design – but it's not that easy, Harrison says.

The mandate of the current LCC structure ends at the end of 2016 and ICFA has now put a revised structure in place. There has also been a change in the way the US supports ILC activities. Harry Weerts, current regional director for the Americas, describes these changes and how they will affect ILC activities.

High Energy Physics (HEP) has always been a field with great discoveries and the field seems to be ‘storming’ forward as some attendees of this ICHEP declared. Not only new LHC results were the center point of this conference but also the discovery of gravitational waves, new neutrino measurements and of course future facilities like the ILC and CLIC.

Did you know that more than 1000 superconducting radiofrequency cavities for roughly 150 cryomodules are needed for accelerator projects which are seeking approval at the moment? And it’s more than 24000 cavities if we add the ILC and the FCC. The TESLA Technology Collaboration meeting is one of the key events to attract SCRF experts from all the world The latest one was held at the beginning of the month, at CEA Saclay, France.

The European Committee for Future Accelerators (ECFA) hosted a Linear Collider Workshop from 30 May to 5 June in Santander, Spain, and offered many opportunities to exchange knowledge and technical know-how to over 200 scientists from all around the world. The ILC community and the CLIC community used this workshop to come together and present their recent developments and new findings in many plenary talks and a large number of parallel sessions. Both projects show their steady progress. But not only science and advancements were the focus of the workshop – also industrial partners and important political developments had their slot on the packed workshop schedule.

The ILC’s central region – the bits of accelerator and other technology around the point where particles will collide – will get special attention at the upcoming ECFA Linear Collider Workshop in Santander, Spain. But changes to the design, civil engineering issues and detector topics also feature on the agenda. ILC Director Mike Harrison looks forward to seeing his colleagues face to face, rather than by video.

A Spanish Japanese Collaboration in industry and science? Yes, a collaboration which just took another important step to strengthen this relationship at May 13th at the Collaboration Opportunities on Fusion and Accelerator Technologies and Projects workshop at the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo. Tohru Takahshi from Hiroshima University attended this workshop and offers his impressions about the actual developments and relations between Japan and Spain. In his short review of this event he included many details about the speakers, the Spanish Japanese History and of course a short look in further events.
