Two Linear Collider events in Whistler, Canada this autumn

| 23 July 2015 As the summer conferences are kicking off, providing more and more complete LHC 8 TeV results and the very first glimpses of 13 TeV data, it is also time to start thinking about the autumn linear collider programme. The LCWS15 and the International Linear Collider School will be held in Whistler, BC, Canada. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , ,

Crossing technical and cultural borders

| 28 May 2015 Accelerator experts from Europe and Japan have a long history of cooperation for projects such as ATF at the Japanese lab KEK, and of course the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. A new EU-funded project makes sure that cooperation continues with future projects like the high-luminosity LHC, the Future Circular Collider FCC, CLIC, the ILC and many more. The first researcher (from the German lab DESY) has already spent nine weeks in Japan to improve simulations for site-specific machine-detector-interface questions for the ILC. CLICing into action

| 5 February 2015 The first prototype module of CLIC is operational in the CLIC test facility. The Compact Linear Collider Study shows that it does what it says in the acronym: a compact accelerator module, fed by high-power waveguides, cables and cooling tubes, sits elegantly on a custom-made mechanical structure that can be moved in all directions to ultra-high precision, and tests how all the little details work that turn a metal structure into a functioning accelerator module– frequency, losses, damping, acceleration, deceleration. At the CLIC test facility you see none of the heavy-duty steel pipes that characterise the dipole magnets of the LHC. Category: Around the World | Tagged: , ,

Say “CLIC”!

5 February 2015 The CLIC annual workshop, held at CERN from 26 to 30 January, did not only bring together nearly accelerator and detector experts to discuss the next stages of the project – it also featured a session on possible applications from CLIC technology, which drew experts from other fields such as light sources, medical research and industry. See the workshop webpage for slides and more information. Category: Image of the week | Tagged: , , , ,

Asian Linear Collider Workshop 2015 coming soon

| 5 February 2015 The Asian Linear Collider Workshop 2015 (ALCW2015) will take place at KEK from 20 – 24 April. The workshop will be devoted to accelerator, physics and detector aspects of future high energy electron-positron linear colliders. It comes at a critical time for the ILC project development in Japan and will have a special focus on the ILC progress in Japan, says Asian Regional Director Akira Yamamoto. A year with the ILC

| 8 January 2015 For the ILC, 2014 was a year of progress in many areas, but the most important activities were centred in Japan, where Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has started deliberations to evaluate the physics justification as well as the scope and cost of the project. The past year also featured nice results from the ATF2 facility in Japan and the XFEL in Europe. Mike Harrison, associate director for the International Linear Collider in the Linear Collider Collaboration, didn’t avoid the temptation to look back before looking ahead to 2015. A successful Linear Collider workshop in Belgrade – and planning the main LC workshops in 2015

| 26 November 2014 After a successful linear collider workshop last month, which saw progress in site-specific studies for the ILC and detector optimisation for both ILC and CLIC detectors (and more), Steinar Stapnes is looking ahead to next year's workshops in Japan and Canada. CERN-KEK offices established

26 November 2014 CERN and the Japanese high-energy accelerator research laboratory KEK have a long history of collaboration. An agreement signed at KEK on 21 November puts this on even firmer ground: both labs will establish CERN-KEK offices to increase the collaborative effort on accelerator R&D and construction projects of mutual interest. Challenges and goals for the LCWS14 in Belgrade 6-10 October

| 3 July 2014 Summer conferences are only just starting, but Steinar Stapnes, director for CLIC in the LCC, looks ahead to the linear collider autumn conference and its specific challenges for ILC as well as for CLIC. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , ,
