The mandate of the current LCC structure ends at the end of 2016 and ICFA has now put a revised structure in place. There has also been a change in the way the US supports ILC activities. Harry Weerts, current regional director for the Americas, describes these changes and how they will affect ILC activities.

High Energy Physics (HEP) has always been a field with great discoveries and the field seems to be ‘storming’ forward as some attendees of this ICHEP declared. Not only new LHC results were the center point of this conference but also the discovery of gravitational waves, new neutrino measurements and of course future facilities like the ILC and CLIC.

The Japanese ministry of education, culture, sports, science and technology MEXT has been investigating the ILC project and the feasibility for it to be hosted in Japan with three working group activities on “Particle and Nuclear Physics” and “Technical Design Report validation” since JFY2014 and “Human Resource ensuring and training” since JFY2015, under the supervision of the ILC Advisory Panel coordinated by MEXT.

A Spanish Japanese Collaboration in industry and science? Yes, a collaboration which just took another important step to strengthen this relationship at May 13th at the Collaboration Opportunities on Fusion and Accelerator Technologies and Projects workshop at the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo. Tohru Takahshi from Hiroshima University attended this workshop and offers his impressions about the actual developments and relations between Japan and Spain. In his short review of this event he included many details about the speakers, the Spanish Japanese History and of course a short look in further events.

On 28 April, the Japanese government announced the winners of the "Medal with Purple Ribbon" for 2016, and Akira Yamamoto, professor of KEK and Regional Director for Asia of Linear Collider Collaboration, is one of them. He receives the Medal for his contribution to the advancement of superconducting technology. This medal is awarded to individuals who have contributed to academic and artistic developments, improvements and accomplishments.

With the future in mind, Japan's High Energy Accelerator Research Organisation, KEK has made a change to its organisational structure regarding the ILC project. By doing so, KEK is getting ready for the "green light" from Japanese government.

The US and Japan work together on a long list of projects in high-energy physics, from current experiments to future plans. At an annual meeting of the “Joint Committee” in Japan, four new projects were added to the list of joint activities, and Harry Weerts, regional director for the Americas, reports that he sees progress on ILC work in Japan, but that US authorities are waiting for a sign from their Japanese counterparts before the project can go ahead.

After a strategic US-Japan meeting earlier this year, the delegates from Japan recently briefed their colleagues on the outcome of the various discussions. The US and Japan have strong ties in science and technology, and the ILC plays an important role.
