The Technical Design Report is out and you can download it here. There is also a dedicated TDR website, "from design to reality", showing the content of Volume 5 of the TDR (the "outreach volume").
Physics at ILC and its status in Japan
Talk by Hitoshi Murayama (Kavli IPMU, Japan) on Wednesday 19 June from 11:00 to 12:00 (Europe/Paris) at LAL (Auditorium Pierre Lehmann). The talk will be webcast.
Barry Barish | 13 June 2013The Global Design Effort has completed its mandate to produce a technical design for the ILC. Yesterday’s official handover of the Technical Design Report to ICFA was the culmination of a celebratory three continent event this week. The discovery of the Higgs particle at the LHC at CERN, the production of a viable design for a complementary electron-positron linear collider and the interest of the Japanese in hosting this machine combine to greatly encourage our communities’ hopes and dreams of building the ILC.

13 June 2013Tokyo, Geneva, Chicago – 12 June 2013. A five-volume report containing the blueprint for a future particle physics project, the International Linear Collider (ILC), was published today. In three consecutive ceremonies in Asia, Europe and the Americas, the authors of the Technical Design Report for the International Linear Collider, a next-generation particle collider to complement and advance beyond the physics of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, officially handed the report over to the international oversight board for projects in particle physics, the International Committee for Future Accelerators ICFA. The Technical Design Report presents the latest, most technologically advanced and most thoroughly scrutinised design for the ILC.

Barry Barish and Lyn Evans | 21 February 2013Today represents a crossroads in the global efforts towards a linear collider. We are officially making the transition from the International Linear Collider Steering Committee and Global Design Efforts to the new Linear Collider Board and Linear Collider Collaboration that will coordinate the next phase of the global R&D towards a high-energy electron-positron collider to complement the LHC. GDE Director Barry Barish and LCC Director Lyn Evans share their vision in a joint Director’s Corner.

Barry Barish | 21 June 2012ICFA announced yesterday that Lyn Evans will become the new Linear Collider Director, when the Global Design Effort (GDE) completes the ILC Technical Design Report and thereby its mandate next year. This is very welcome news! Not only is Lyn a superb and exceptionally well-qualified candidate for the job, but his early appointment will give us the opportunity to make a smooth transition.

Rika Takahashi | 5 April 2012The ILC programme’s Nobu Toge has been appointed as one of KEK's five trustees. He began working with the linear collider in 1986, later joining the Global Design Effort in 2005. Toge will remain in the GDE directorate as a member of the editorial team for the Technical Design Report.

Barry Barish | 22 March 2012The Global Design Effort Executive Committee met face to face in Washington, DC, last month. One of the main goals was to agree on the detailed plan towards completing the Technical Design Report, including decisions about the level of detail that will be included in the actual report and how to ensure that the backup documentation will be readily available.

Images: Jefferson Lab | 23 February 2012Charles Reece, deputy director of Jefferson Lab’s Institute for Superconducting Radiofrequency Science and Technology, leads GDE Executive Committee members on a tour of the new facilities that will be available upon completion of the Technology and Engineering Development Facility, a $72 million structure that will keep the lab in the forefront of SRF developments. John Hogan, Jefferson Lab SRF Cryomodule Production Leader, shows GDE Executive Committee members the sixth C100 cryomodule (of ten) being produced at Jefferson Lab as part of the lab's 12 GeV CEBAF Upgrade Project. This cryomodule is at the cold-mass assembly stage and Hogan is discussing the integrated design of the components as they relate to overall cryomodule performance. Members of the GDE Executive Committee pause during a tour of Jefferson Lab's Institute for Superconducting Radiofrequency Science and Technology for a group photo between two C100 cryomodules being built for Jefferson Lab's 12 GeV Upgrade.

Barry Barish | 13 October 2011In anticipation of completing the Global Design Effort’s final deliverable, the Technical Design Report, by the end of 2012, serious discussions are underway as to the next steps and what will follow. The International Linear Collider Steering Committee (ILCSC) is taking primary responsibility for creating a plan. As part of the process, the GDE Executive Committee submitted a position paper to ILCSC for its meeting in Mumbai, India in August. I share our input with our readers today.
