TDR review season is underway

| 7 February 2013 The draft of the ILC Technical Design Report (TDR) was completed last November and submitted for review. On 13 and 14 December, the TDR underwent a technical review at KEK by an augmented ILCSC Program Advisory Committee. The review report endorses the technical design we have presented and recommends “no changes in the TDR.” The report does identify areas and items to address in the future. Taking heed of good advice

| 3 February 2011 The most obvious benefit of the seemingly endless series of reviews we undergo comes from the rigours of doing our preparations. But the reviews also serve to validate our work, and perhaps most importantly, the review committees give us good advice in their reports. Last autumn, we had a two-day technical review of the Global Design Effort by the Project Advisory Committee (PAC), a subcommittee of the International Linear Collider Steering Committee (ILCSC). Several recommendations came out of that PAC review that have been quite helpful to us as we prepare to make final decisions on the proposed new baseline configuration for the ILC Technical Design Report (TDR). The latest ILC technical review

| 10 June 2010 [...] Today, I will report on the latest meeting of the Project Advisory Committee (PAC) that reviews both the accelerator and detector technical efforts and reports to the International Linear Collider Steering Committee (ILCSC). This recent meeting was particularly important, because at this time we are dealing with differing opinions regarding the proposed baseline changes for the ILC technical design. The value of being reviewed

| 4 June 2009 The AAP is an "inside" panel that is augmented by some outside experts and has the mandate of continually monitoring, reviewing and giving me advice on the technical aspects of our work. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , ,

What’s in a word?

| 28 May 2009 During the day-to-day activities of Global Design Effort Project Management, I find myself using certain nouns more frequently than others. Recently, the word review has featured prominently in our vocabulary. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , ,

Implementing “internal” reviews for the ILC Technical Design Phase

| 10 April 2008 Last week, the new Accelerator Advisory Panel (AAP) was introduced in NewsLine. This week, I follow up with a description of its role and why I believe it will improve the quality of our R&D and design efforts. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , ,

DOE and NSF Review US Detector R&D Programme

| 28 June 2007 The cacophonous tune of cicadas serenaded the physicists at last week’s Department of Energy and National Science Foundation review of the US Detector R&D Programme for the International Linear Collider. Harry Weerts, the High Energy Physics Director at Argonne National Laboratory, where the review took place, vividly remembered the last time the cicadas visited --17 years ago when another detector milestone was in the making. “I remember it well because we were commissioning the DZero detector at Fermilab,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the next time the cicadas come around and seeing what the world looks like then.” Category: Feature | Tagged: , , , , ,

Report of the International Cost Review of the ILC

| 21 June 2007 Last month, many of us in the GDE went to Paris (to Orsay to be precise) for our long anticipated International Cost Review of our ILC Reference Design and plans for the future. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , , ,

R&D panel reviews calorimetry R&D for ILC detectors

14 June 2007 The calorimeters for the ILC detectors have to show excellent performance if researchers want to fully exploit the physics potential of the ILC. Many processes that are unique for the physics programme of the ILC are characterised by multiple-jet production that can be reconstructed by new calorimetry techniques to very high energies with unprecedented precision. The goal is to improve the jet energy resolution already achieved by a factor of two to fulfil the physics requirements the best possible way. Hence we need to develop these novel technologies and show that they work by ‘proof of principle’. Category: Feature | Tagged: , ,

MAC review of global ILC RD programme

| 31 May 2007 During the ILC reference design phase, leading up to the Reference Design Report (RDR), the International Linear Collider Steering Committee (ILCSC) appointed a Machine Advisory Committee (MAC) to provide technical reviews of our work. Category: Director's Corner | Tagged: , , ,
